Tracks recorded at Important records Gosforth 1983 as Sergeant,Drums Brian Dick - Bass Anthony Curran - Guitar Robb Weir - Vocals & guitar - Tony Liddle  - Management Colin Rowell

I had just played an acoustic solo spot on channel four tv music program The
Tube, the song was Cold Mourning a song I had written about 1978. My gigging
band at the time was called Frontier but we had disbanded and I was looking
for a new band. Robb Weir, a guitarist from a band called the Tygers Of Pan
Tang had also appeared on the same tv show, his band had just been dropped
from the MCA record label and were splitting up. I received a phone call
from Robb and he asked if I would put a band together with him, at that time
no name had been thought of but would later be named Sergeant. Robb
suggested Brian Dick on drums from the Tygers, I suggested a bass player
called Anthony Curran.

Robb and myself got together some of my old tracks from my last few band
line ups, Holyoake and Frontier...Court Your Daughter...Down
Inside...Courtesy...Arranging, added some that I had recently written No
Angels Here (Sweet Angel)...Lust...Wynd Up... and together wrote a brand
new track called Missing Drinks (Links). The completed line up featured
Brian Dick on drums, Anthony Curran on bass, Robb on rhythm and lead and
myself on vocals and lead guitar. My previous manager was a radio presenter
called John Coulson but had just died. Colin Rowell stepped forward as
manager and I was once again on the trail for stardom and artistical
recognition.

We went into Important records studio in Gosforth and recorded this album.
The band worked really well together with a charisma of its own but after
some show cases for CBS records, Carlin publishers, a tv show and a few
gigs, internal wranglings started within the band. Robb Weir was replaced
by Steve Lamb then soon after we changed management.
(Hear the new line up on the album - Tony Liddle - No Angels Here)

We went back into rehearsals and started gigging, it was then that things
started to pick up again for us...and we had developed a unique sound built
around Steve Lambs guitar style. We decided to record a track at Lynx
studios Newcastle and were immediately asked to enter into a management deal
with Brian Johnson's (AC/DC) local company Roxy Leisure. We recorded all
the stuff again with some new songs at Lynx and were launched onto a full
major British tour supporting German metal act Accept. The experience of
playing my own material on the stages of Hammersmith Odeon London,
Birmingham Odeon, Nottingham Rock City, Manchester Apollo and my home town
Newcastle City Hall at 23 years old was unforgettable...if I could only
remember.

I do remember having a beer with Fish (Marillion) at Newcastle City hall bar
and being at a night club with David Coverdale (Whitesnake)...a coffee at
Peter Mensh (manager Def Leppard) house ...playing pool with the band over
at Brian Johnson's house and him being at our gigs...Twisted Sister coming
to one of our gigs and I remember puking on the Kerrang photographers from
the stage at Hammersmith Odeon (Hear the live tour on - Tony Liddle - In The
Bucket! Live At Hammersmith).

Sergeant ended when Brian Dick and Steve Lamb left to join a reformed Tygers
Of Pan Tang (without Robb). Anthony went to Arabia for a carpentry job...
so I decided to leave the band too as I was the only one left. I joined a
band in Liverpool for a short time on Riva records then headed to London to
join a band that became known as Strangeways, signing a record deal with
Bonaire records and achieving top ten chart success, a top five on import
charts and a top ten on European radio playlists compiled by Metal Hammer.

The worst was yet to come...my rock n roll dream stories continue through a
40 c.d. album collection on strangestreetrecords.com
